Afforestation Drive – Kenya Highlands

Project Overview
The Afforestation Drive – Kenya Highlands project restores degraded highland ecosystems through community-led tree planting and sustainable forest management in the Nakuru region. Historical land degradation has reduced forest cover, weakened watersheds, and increased climate vulnerability.
The project regenerates native forests while creating long-term carbon sinks and supporting rural livelihoods.
Methodology & Implementation
Certified under Plan Vivo APD-01, the project establishes native tree plantations on degraded lands and integrates long-term forest management agreements with participating households. Carbon stocks are monitored through biomass assessments and growth modeling.
Carbon Impact
- Biomass carbon sequestration
- Improved watershed stability
- Reduced land degradation
Social & Environmental Benefits
The project provides diversified income streams, improves soil and water conservation, and strengthens community capacity for sustainable land management.
SDGs Alignment
The project contributes to SDGs 1, 13, and 15, supporting poverty reduction, climate action, and ecosystem restoration.
Energy Efficiency
This project follows the Energy Efficiency methodology under the Puro.Earth standard, focusing on forestry to deliver verified carbon credits.
Each credit represents one tonne of CO₂ emissions reduced, removed, or avoided, as verified by registry-approved third-party auditors.
